Sporting highlights

Great hockey and athletics news and a brilliant tennis fundraiser.

Athletics

Tom Hobbs (Y9), Oliver Brooke (Y11) and Georgia Baker (L6) all competed at the ESAA English Schools Combined Events Championships in Bedford for their respective age-groups.

Tom achieved fourth place, achieving five PBs in all five events. As a result of his performance, he’s been invited to represent England in December. PBs included: 1.71m HJ, 5.87 in LJ, 10.96 SP, 2.08s 800m, 12.8s Hurdles.

Cricket

Dave Smith, Head of Cricket, was part of the victorious Tunbridge Wells side who won the National T20 Club competition on Sunday beating Barnard Castle in the final.

Cross Country

The senior boys and junior girls finished seventh out of 25 teams at the Will Bolton Memorial relay. The junior boys finished second with an outstanding leg by Ben Catchpole (Y8) with 13.41 for 3Km.

Hockey

The first XI won the Mel Clewlow Cup beating a strong St Lawrence side 2-0 in the final.

Cath Nicholson has been selected to represent East Grinstead Hockey Club in the European Club Trophy, a fantastic achievement. This is the highest club competition in Europe and equivalent to the Champions League in football.

Tennis

Twelve students travelled to the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton so they could take part in a 24-hour tennis marathon for the charity Bright Ideas for Tennis. The students were brilliant playing tennis constantly between midnight and 4am on Sunday morning raising over £5000. Fundraiser

Outreach

A brilliant U9 and U11 football tournament took place on Friday for 6 Prep schools. St Michael’s won the U11 and St Ronan’s won the U9 competitions. Thanks to Jack Jarvis for all the hard work to ensure a smooth afternoon.
