Independent School of the Year for Student Wellbeing 2023 – shortlisted
We are delighted to have been shortlisted for Independent School of the Year for Student Wellbeing.
The Independent School of the Year Awards recognise the excellence of the student experience and the ways in which schools are going above and beyond to support students in their educational journey.
This year the judges have been particularly interested in the innovative work being undertaken in diversity, equality, inclusion, and justice.
Mr Jesse Elzinga, Headmaster of Sevenoaks School, said: ‘We are delighted to be shortlisted for the Student Wellbeing award. Sevenoaks encourages students to combine their knowledge, passions and philanthropic values, helping them to flourish as individuals and make the world a better place. Our continued involvement in Harvard University’s groundbreaking Human Flourishing Program helps us to gather meaningful insight so we ensure the whole school community flourishes.
‘This year we introduced new initiatives to support: happiness and life satisfaction; mental and physical health; meaning and purpose; character and virtue; and close social relationships – all key measures of flourishing.
‘Our ongoing commitment to inclusivity has seen the establishment of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Affinity Working Groups, which were formed last year and continue to meet regularly. Their committed endeavours led us to hold our first internal EDI conference in June, at which members of the groups reviewed the year and discussed future plans.’
A list of finalists will be published on 6 September and the winners, chosen by the Independent Schools of the Year judging panel will be announced at an awards ceremony in October.
