It has been another eventful term for the debating society with record numbers of students attending and the usual round of competitions entered as well as friendlies hosted with Tonbridge, Benenden and Tonbridge Girls’ Grammar.
The quality of Sevenoaks debating continues to grow, with Camilla Savelieva being selected for trials to join the national England debate team. Although Camilla did not make the final squad of five, she still made it down to the last 25 candidates – a fantastic achievement!
However, our best result of the term was when one of our teams were joint winners of the South Hampstead High School Autumn Debating Competition held at South Hampstead’s North London campus. The winning team comprised of Taani Shukla, Anaia Dessay and Angelina Kourti Makdissian (all Year 10). The win was all the more impressive as it was Angelina’s first competition – we hope it won’t be her last!
