A new book by Bob Ogley (OS 1955) tells a wartime story of Sevenoaks.

Sevenoaks 1940: The Year the Town was Bombed, is a photographic account of local memories of the events of that year.

On 8 February 2025 the 80-day countdown to the 80th anniversary of VE Day begins.

On 8 May 1945, after nearly six years, the war in Europe came to an end. It had cost/taken the lives of millions and destroyed homes, families and cities.

Sevenoaks had not escaped the danger and destruction; the town’s proximity to Fort Halstead and RAF Biggin Hill, as well as its location on the bombers’ route from London, meant the district suffered months of tragedy during the Battle of Britain in 1940.

Sevenoaks 1940 is available from Sevenoaks Bookshop. Bob has long had a keen interest in keeping local history alive and worked for the Sevenoaks Chronicle for 60 years as reporter, editor and writer of the Chronicler nostalgia column.
