International Applicants
International Applicants
A distinctive feature of Sevenoaks is its cosmopolitan nature. The International Baccalaureate – taken by all our Sixth Formers – fosters a global outlook, but Sevenoaks has been actively recruiting students from around the world for even longer than we have taught the IB. We believe that bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and religions creates a stimulating, vibrant learning environment.
International applications are not treated any differently to those from the UK. The same deadlines and information about each entry point apply to all applicants.
We have no limits on the number of international students that we admit year on year, although we are keen to ensure that a balance of nationalities is maintained to ensure a truly international experience for any child attending Sevenoaks. Please note that boarding places are only available at 13+ and 16+.
Assessments
We encourage all applicants to come to our assessment days in Sevenoaks, as these give us the best opportunity to get to know your child and for your child to gain a deeper insight into the school. However, we know that is not always possible, so Sevenoaks staff travel to supervise tests in countries with sufficient applicants.
If you cannot attend a testing event run by our own staff, it is possible to take the assessments at a British Council office or similar, and to participate in an online group discussion activity.
International Visits
English Level
All subjects are taught in English, so students must have a high level of fluency in written and spoken English. An Upper Intermediate level or higher is recommended, equivalent to CEFR B2, ALTE level 3 or IELTS levels 5 to 6. Formal language qualifications are welcomed but not required.
Visas and Guardians
We can sponsor boarders for Child Student visas. Our Visa Coordinator will guide and support you through the visa application process. There is a £500 (+VAT) administration charge which will be added to your bill. We do not sponsor day students for Child Student visas.
It is a legal requirement that students whose parents live outside the UK must have a named guardian living in the UK.
1962
The year Sevenoaks opened its first international Sixth Form boarding house.
Sevenoaks School Summer Programmes offer two-week academic courses
UKiset
It is not a requirement for your child to complete a UKiset test prior to applying. However, Sevenoaks is an academically selective school and does not suit all students. Some of our candidates, particularly those not at a UK school or those for whom English is a second language, may wish to have an early indication of their suitability. If this is the case, you may wish to consider a UKiset test. You are welcome to share the results with us if you wish.
